WHITEWATER CHEST OR SILO HEATING:

  • The venturi pumping effect of our Hydroheater design allows for simple installation, utilizing inline heating to avoid steam hammer, tank damage, and energy losses associated with sparging.
  • Whitewater or any process water used in the paper making machine process, can be heated by Hydro-Thermal technology. Hydro-Thermal can help you maintain or increase water temperature. Achieving higher water temperature (ideally 120-140˚F) can improve drainage on the wet end of the paper machine which ultimately increases machine speed. In addition, higher temperatures can improve water removal in the press section of the machine, and reduces bacterial growth.

WHITEWATER PROCESS STREAM HEATING (NON-VENTURI PUMPING)

  • Effectively mix large quantities of steam for rapid temperature increase of the entire whitewater system, including header overflow, screen rejects, or seal pit return.
  • Hydro-Thermal can help you maintain or increase whitewater or process water temperature used on the paper machine. Improve drainage on the wet end of the paper machine to ultimately increase machine speed. The use of higher temperatures (ideally 120-140˚F) can also reduce bacterial growth and improve water removal in the press section of the machine.

OTHER FRESH WATER USES AROUND WET END

  • Improve production efficiency and sheet quality. Felt and wire showers benefit from tempered water for improved cleaning and elimination of temperature stratification. Head box and other roll showers benefit from heating/tempering water to match whitewater temperature. By having uniform temperature that matches whitewater temperature, there is a consistent temperature profile on the machine. In turn, the machine runs more consistently which increases production quality. 
  • Hydro-Thermal technology can heat whitewater or process water used on the paper machine. Maintaining or increasing water temperature (ideally 120-140˚F) can help increase machine speed. These higher temperatures can improve drainage on the wet end of the paper machine, as well as improve water removal in the press section of the machine. REPULPER/RECYCLED FIBER HEATING

  • Reduce pulping time or eliminate the need to sparge into pulpers during operation by preheating fill water for repulpers. Improved contaminant removal and enhanced dewatering are also benefits.
  • Most repulpers require heat to break up bails and wastepaper. Preheating is more efficient, because it will improve repulping time while avoiding direct sparging into the repulper. Water heating is at the core of Hydro-Thermal’s applications, because precise and consistent temperature is a crucial part of manufacturing especially in the processing of paper.

  • Many types of starches can be processed with inline cooking for size press, wet end, and coating starches/slurries. Complete systems can incorporate automated flush and preheat cycles, cooked and final starch solids control, hold tube retention time, and back pressure control.

PULP STOCK WASHING

  • Stock and filtrate heating up to 13% consistency possible, as well as water/filtrate heating between bleach stages.
  • Hydro-Thermal is working with a major European pulp and paper equipment company to offer the pulp stock heating application on a greater scale. The equipment company partnered with Hydro-Thermal for its technology and eventually private labeled a version of its Solaris Hydroheater equipment. Now, the second generation product line is marketed in conjunction with this company in the pulp and paper market. Therefore, any processors interested in this type of application will be directed to this equipment provider.

GREEN LIQUOR HEATING

  • Achieve best conversion and minimize risk of boil-over with controlled and precise temperature of slaker reaction during the causticizing process.
  • There are multiple methods to heat green liquor including sparging into a tank, using a shell and tube heat exchanger, or doing nothing at all and having uncontrolled temperature. Using Hydro-Thermal’s solution increases causticizer efficiency, improves conversion rate of lime use, reduces dusting at lime kiln, and heats 100% of the process flow in line prior to the slaker.

BLACK LIQUOR HEATING

  • Precise and consistent temperature control allows for easy adjustment of liquor viscosity and efficient boiler firing.
  • Black liquor is heated to achieve optimum drop size of the black liquor feed into the recovery boiler. If the drop size is too small, then emissions increase. If the drop size is too large, then liquor does not burn efficiently. Hydro-Thermal’s solution helps control droplet size, and can heat black liquor with solids over 70% without scaling or fouling.


SODIUM CHLORATE RAILCAR UNLOADING

  • Combination of 317L and Duplex2205 alloys ensure reliable heating method that controls heating of the solution throughout entire unloading process.
  • Up to 10-20% of product can remain un-dissolved in railcars and be returned to the chemical manufacturer if the water isn’t at proper temperature. Preheating water to 180ºF during the recirc process can remove nearly 100% of product in the railcar. By using Hydro-Thermal’s solution, you will eliminate loss of product due to inconsistent temperature control. In addition, maintain employee safety even if you are unloading highly corrosive and hazardous material.

  • Easily and efficiently heats tanks on in-feed or in recirc mode, trim heat.

Whitewater Heating for Improved Paper Machine Performance

With direct steam injection technology, paper producers can heat the whitewater loop using plant or waste steam including the silo, whitewater chest, or the whitewater storage tank. Otherwise, producers can heat other water uses on the paper machine to match the whitewater temperature including headbox rolls, wire showers, and press section showers.

At the heart of the application is the Industrial Hydroheater design that uses high velocity steam injection for heating of the whitewater, but also creates the pumping of an eductor. This Venturi effect will provide a self-recirculating flow of whitewater through the Hydroheater and pump it back into the silo or chest. Relatively low pressure steam (35 psig or greater) can be used for heating your whitewater, efficiently capturing this energy that may otherwise be vented as waste steam.
