Two engineers at Hydro-Thermal Corporation in Waukesha, WI have successfully completed the requirements for and earned the designation of Steam System Specialist by the U.S. Department of Energy and are now fluent in the appropriate use of the Best Practices Steam Tools used by the DOE and can quantify key steam improvement opportunities for industry.

Earning their Steam System Specialist designations are:

Lee Van Dixhorn, MSME, PE, Steam System Specialist

Lee presently serves as the Engineering Manager for Hydro-Thermal Corporation leading the engineering team working on the correct application of Direct Steam Injection (DSI) across multiple industries.  He has over 15 years of engineering experience in various industries, including process heating, power, R&D and HVAC.  Lee also coordinates the research and development team at Hydro-Thermal Corporation.

He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (BSME), a Masters from Virginia Tech (MSME) and is a registered Professional Engineer (PE).

David Degelau, BSME, Steam System Specialist

David is employed by Hydro-Thermal Corporation as an Applications Engineer specializing in the Chemical, Pulp & Paper, Food, and General Industrial markets.  He is a Mechanical Process Engineer with over 14 years experience in process design and analysis for pulp & paper, food processing, dairy and general industrial applications.  He speaks regularly at conference presentations and writes white papers on process efficiency and energy savings.

Mr. Degelau earned a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Bachelors of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin.

Hydro-Thermal will use the newly acquired certification to offer steam assessments to their customers and participate on energy efficiency boards.  Further, it follows their corporate policy becoming energy efficient themselves and provides technical service in the whole steam system subject matter.

The BestPractices Steam System Specialist qualification training is offered through the U.S. Department of Energy and sponsored by local groups.  In Wisconsin, it was sponsored by Focus on Energy (FOE).  Hydro-Thermal Corporation is a proud partner of the U.S. DOE and the Wisconsin FOE.  We are also proud of the accomplishments of our engineering staff, especially Mr. Van Dixhorn and Mr. Degelau.
