F-H Definitions
FLOCCULATION The separation of a solution and removal of sediment from a solution. Hydro-Thermal’s products are able to handle a variety of abrasive conditions. For instance, hydroheaters are used in oil sands where rocks and sand are removed so that only the tar remains. The tar is later converted into oil. Source
FLOW RATE The volume of fluid which passes through a given surface per unit time. Prospective customers need to be honest about their systems’ flow rates so that engineers can design a customized heater that is specific to their processing conditions. Source
FLUE GAS DESULFURIZATION Technology used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the exhaust flue gases of fossil fuel power plants. Fossil fuel power plants burn coal or oil to produce steam for steam turbines, which in turn drive electricity generators. Source
GPM Gallons Per Minute is a measure of volume. Flow rates are often measures in gallons per minute and are needed to help Hydro-Thermal engineers create a customized heater for a customer. Source
HAMMER A pressure surge or wave resulting when a fluid (usually a liquid but sometimes also a gas) in motion is forced to stop or change direction suddenly (momentum change). Water hammer commonly occurs when a valve is closed suddenly at an end of a pipeline system, and a pressure wave propagates in the pipe. It may also be known as hydraulic shock. This pressure wave can cause major problems, from noise and vibration to pipe collapse. Source
HOMOGENEOUS Of the same or a similar kind or nature. Source
