Replacing a Sparging System to Uniformly Cook Meat Slurry
The company needed to replace a legacy sparge system used to cook meat slurry for its high level brand dog food. Reaching proper temperature for a consistent and uniform cook was important. The company's North American pet products headquarters is in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The old cook system did not hit proper temperature and, at times, could not hold the temperature for the needed time. It was also plagued with burn-on and plugged the system, requiring constant shut-down to fix that problem.
The company had used Hydroheaters in the past for flavoring applications. Because this is a mission critical application and they are pleased with the temperature control and low maintenance of the other units in the plant, they chose duel A210 (Sanitary Hydroheater®) systems for the meat slurry cooking application.
RESULTS: Meat slurry is passed through Sanitary Hydroheaters to be thawed and mixed, then again to be uniformly cooked to a tight temperature control of ±1°F. Meat slurry consistency is maintained and no plugging occurs. Better yet, the company now says that down-time is a non-issue.
