Paper Mill Eliminates Unscheduled Shutdowns after Replacing Sparger with Hydroheater®

The mill experienced uneven heating and rough operation with its one-of-a-kind in-line sparger on their black liquor line. The devices provided inadequate condensing of steam and caused sever damage to associate pipe fittings.

The solution was to install an Industrial Hydroheater® prior to the gun loop on the recovery boiler to heat black liquor to the optimum temperature and maintain proper nozzle pattern and droplet size for maximum burn efficiency. Since the Hydroheater steam injection heater is designed for severe service liquor heating, no hammering or fouling occurs.

The mill reports no unscheduled down-time and black liquor temperature is precisely maintained at 250ºF [121°C]. The Hydroheater runs quietly and smoothly with no cleaning required.

Operating Conditions: 67% black liquor

Flow rates 80 gpm  [3.02 kl/min]
Inlet temperature 180°F     [82.2°C]
Outlet temperature
250°F     [121°C]
Fluid supply pressure 65 psig   [4.4 bar]
Steam pressure 150 psig [10.3 bar]
Steam superheat to 400°F [204.4°C]

Unlike heat exchangers or spargers, the Hydroheater is designed only for your process conditions and unique application. We need to know a few things about your conditions, such as temperature range, steam pressure, and flow rates to size a heater specifically for you. When you click on our application data sheet and fill in the information, we will contact you within one business day. After an initial conversation with a sales representative or one of our engineers, we will then provide you with a custom quote for the Hydroheater best suited for your process.

Yes, I want to save energy and have more control using direct steam injection. Please complete the Application Data Sheet which helps us understand your process conditions such as fluid density, flow rates and temperature parameters.
