C Definitions
CaCo3(Calcium Carbonate) CaCo3 can accumulate on unwanted material on solid surfaces, usually in an aquatic environment. Heat exchangers often cause CaCo3 build-up (sometimes referred to as scaling, fouling or clogging). Hydro-Thermal’s self cleaning designs reduces scaling, fouling, clogging which reduces maintenance expenses. Source
CATIONIC An ion or group of ions having a positive charge and characteristically moving toward the negative electrode in electrolysis. During the production of paper, cationic ions are added to strengthen the paper. Source
CENTRIFUGAL PUMP A rotodynamic pump that uses a rotating impeller to create flow by the addition of energy to a fluid. Centrifugal pumps are commonly used to move liquids through piping. Source
CHOKED FLOW A flow restriction occurs in a gas systems (e.g. restriction orifices, control valves), usually the result of a pressure drop. If the pressure differential across them is large, choked flow will result. Less effective heating methods such as spargers or heat exchangers can cause choked flow because they are not designed to properly handle pressure fluctuations. Hydro-Thermal’s direct steam injection heaters are designed to customer specifications so that choked flow is no longer a problem. For instance, Hydro-Thermal's heaters are able to accommodate flow fluctuations during shift changes. Source
CIP(Clean in Place) A method of cleaning the interior surfaces of pipes, vessels, process equipment, filters and associated fittings, without disassembly. Heat exchangers often need to be taken apart after every shift and cleaned. Hydro-Thermal’s heaters self cleaning design allows the heater to literally “clean in place,” so that the heater does not have to be taken apart as frequently eliminating long breaks in production. CORROSIVE Also see abrasive. One that will destroy or irreversibly damage another surface or substance with which it comes into contact. Hydro-Thermals’ heaters are able to filter abrasive or corrosive materials that would get clogged in a heat exchanger or other less effective heating device. Source
CRITICAL PRESSURE The pressure required to liquefy a gas at its critical temperature. Hydro-Thermals’ team of engineers takes into account specific operating condition for each and every customer so that precise pressures and temperatures are accounted for. Source
CRITICAL TEMPERATURE The temperature at and above which vapor of the substance cannot be liquefied, no matter how much pressure is applied. Specific applications are often temperature specific. For instance, in meat and poultry slaughter plants, 180 degree water is required or else they face FDA shutdown. Hydro-Thermal understands that the importance of critical temperatures and can create heaters that guarantee a specific temperature. Source
